Trap of Illusive Sensations

                                
Historical parks in the suburbs of Saint Petersburg are peaceful backwaters in the river of time. Here, in misty shade of venerable trees, the stream of time loses its confident run. Here the inexorable diktat of one-way direction – left to right, present to future – comes to an end. The time stratifies here, and in some slow dreamy rhythm a diffusion of time layers happens. Things become transparent, distances ebb and flow, landscape is seen through architecture.

And you are sitting on that very bench – now all in autumn leaves, with a camera in your hand  – and then, with a girl in a short skirt, - and earlier, in shorts and a panama hat, with a lollipop behind your cheek. And this all is you. And this all is now. Spreading fog and tiny drops of weekday drizzle. White-faced statues look sideways and grin under marble moustaches.

The sensation is illusive but real. The reality itself is nothing more than endless sequence of footsteps of immersion and levels of perception. And through sinking into the reality of personal memory, rambling through the empty alleys strewn with leaves, you may come to the point of complete dissolution of sense of self, which is no less illusive than its sensations. And all what remains is a hand with a black plastic box, hanging in space, and a finger pushing the button to slice the reality into thin square pieces, to stack them by two or three. With the only purpose – to see and to be amazed afterwards, and to feel again this illusive sensation of space, sinking and emerging up and down the surface of full-flowing stream of time, spinning in a slow swirl. And to imprint this sensation into the space of personal memory.
